My First year at VIT
My First Year at VIT Vellore
Starting my journey at VIT Vellore as a B-tech CSE student was a blend of excitement, nervousness, and curiosity. Like every other fresher stepping into college life,
I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but deep down, I knew this phase would shape my future.
The Beginning:
The first few day's on campus felt surreal. Walking through the massive gates and seeing the vast infrastructure, modern buildings, and lively atmosphere made me realize that I had entered a completely new world. First day we were asked settle in our hostel's and it was unique experience that i never had before. This was my first time in my life staying in hostel.
Meeting new people was both exciting and slightly intimidating. Students from different states, cultures, and backgrounds came together, each bringing their own uniqueness. Initially, conversations were formal and hesitant, but slowly, those strangers turned into familiar faces and eventually into friends.Academics:
One of the biggest changes I experienced was in academics. Unlike school, where learning was more structured, college required self-discipline and consistency. The FFCS (Fully Flexible Credit System) gave freedom, but it also came with responsibility. personally I had had bad experience in my 1st FFCS, I missed one subject first and it was not a nice memory about it.
Assignments, quizzes, lab work, and CAT exams became a regular part of life. At first, it felt overwhelming to manage everything at once. There were days when deadlines piled up and stress kicked in. But gradually, I learned the importance of planning, prioritizing, and staying consistent.
Group projects played a crucial role in my learning. Working with different people helped me understand new perspectives and improve my communication skills. It wasn’t always smooth differences in opinions and work styles sometimes caused conflicts but those experiences taught me teamwork and problem-solving.
Hostel Life:
Hostel life was an entirely new experience for me. Staying away from home for the first time wasn’t easy. I missed home-cooked food, family, and the comfort of my routine. But at the same time, hostel life gave me a sense of freedom and independence. Luckily all my roommates are friendly and good.
Managing my own schedule, handling daily responsibilities, and adjusting with roommates taught me valuable life skills. From waking up early for classes to late-night study sessions before exams, every day had its own rhythm.
Some of the best memories were made in the hostel are ate-night talks, random laughter, group studies, and even last-minute exam preparations. These moments made hostel life special and unforgettable.
Friendships:
If there’s one thing that truly defined my first year, it was the friendships I built. From sitting together in classes to sharing meals in the mess, these small interactions gradually turned into strong bonds.
Friends became my support system whether it was helping with studies, giving advice, or simply being there during tough times. We celebrated successes together and motivated each other during failures.
The memories we created inside classrooms, in hostel corridors, or while exploring the campus are something I will always cherish but yet I miss my school friends here.
Campus Life:
VIT Vellore is not just about academics; it offers countless opportunities beyond the classroom. Technical clubs, cultural events, workshops, and fests added excitement to everyday life.
Participating in events and hackathons helped me step out of my comfort zone. Whether it was attending a workshop, joining a club, each experience helped me learn something new.
The campus itself became a part of my daily routine. Evening walks, spending time with friends, and exploring different spots on campus became moments of relaxation amidst a busy schedule.
Riviera:
One of the most exciting highlights of my first year was experiencing VIT Riviera. The entire campus transformed into a vibrant hub of energy, creativity, and celebration. From music concerts and dance performances to fashion shows and fun competitions, every corner of the campus was alive with activity. Watching live performances, participating in events, and exploring stalls with friends made it an unforgettable experience. Riviera not only gave me a break from academics but also allowed me to connect with people, showcase talents, and truly feel the spirit of college life at its best.
I have also participated i many other event other than pro show like Tamil events ,stunt show, games and many more. It was golden memories to me.
Challenges:
My first year wasn’t without challenges. There were moments of stress, especially during exams and project deadlines. Homesickness hit hard at times, and there were days when I felt overwhelmed. I really struggled to keep up with this busy schedule and maintaining attendance. In school we never thick about attendance but here in college it become a daily concern. I never imagined of going to classes at morning 8 O clock but now I have to do it regularly. Particularly second semester has become a survaival challenge.
But these challenges turned out to be my greatest teachers. They taught me resilience, patience, and how to manage pressure. I learned that it’s okay to struggle, as long as you keep moving forward.
Personal Growth:
When I reflect on my first year, I realize how much I have grown not just academically, but personally. I became more confident, independent, and responsible.
I learned how to manage my time, communicate effectively, and adapt to new situations. More importantly, I started understanding myself better my strengths, weaknesses, and goals.
Conclusion:
My first year at VIT Vellore was not just about studies or grades it was about experiences, lessons, and growth. It marked the transition from school life to a more independent and responsible phase of life.
As I move ahead in my college journey, I carry with me the memories, friendships, and lessons from this year. They have laid a strong foundation for everything that lies ahead.
This year taught me one important thing: college is not just about earning a degree it’s about discovering who you are and who you want to become.
